1. Project & Business Modelling

Development of financial models for renewable energy projects to ensure viability, options appraisal, project optimisation. Our experience with numerous deployments and familiarity with renewables operations allows rapid build of models to accurately assess options and scenarios at project outset, during deployment or for operating plants.

2. Project Development & Execution

We can provide complete project execution services including project management, tender processes, value engineering and project risk management. We leverage anaerobic digestion and process engineering industry awareness to identify and select appropriate technology and technology providers to suit project demands.

3. Project Engineering

Our team offer direct engineering capability in order to drive projects forward at pace & to allow vendor offer value appraisal and alternate solution identification as needed. This includes 2D & 3D CAD, layout development, gas and liquid flow systems design, mechanical design, control systems specification, process optimisation, DSEAR/HAZOP analysis.

4. Deployment & Site Support

Provision of-site support to ensure deployments run to schedule and challenges are mitigated during construction. We can act as CDM Principal Designer or Principal Contractor as required. GCS can also use our experience of anaerobic digestion operations and maintenance to offer ongoing support for ongoing operations or to assist with planned upgrades.

WHAT WE DO

Sectors we work in

Farm and Waste based Anaerobic Digestion

Our principal focus is supporting clients to develop and optimise anaerobic digestion projects using waste and crop feedstocks. We act on behalf of site owners to ensure project success.

 

GS has supported clients to develop AD projects since 2010 when Feed-in-Tariffs were introduced, and continues to develop plants with a current focus on biomethane-to-grid facilities. Our largest plant to date exports 115GWh biomethane, generates 1.6 MW of electricity, and sells 10,000 t/a food-grade CO2.

Process Engineering

We have experience in across most aspects of process engineering including, waste management, gas abatement & value extraction from anaerobic digestion products such as digestate pelleting and conversion of CO2 to dry ice.

CHP & Biomethane Renewable Energy Development

Our capabilities in process engineering, grid connections, and support scheme value optimisation, positions us well to help clients evaluate and optimise all types of renewable energy projects.

OUR SERVICES

Technology Capabilities

  • We have been involved since the early days of AD and has built extensive knowledge as the sector has developed. We have delivered projects both as owner's engineer, ensuring value when outsourcing builds through main contractors as well as delivering custom plant solutions. GCS can support new builds, upgrades, and developments across all aspects of AD plants including feeding systems, tanks, digestate management, CHPs, gas abatement, biogas upgrading, CO2 recovery, and lagoon design.

  • GCS have been involved in biomethane gas to grid from the early days and can help with all aspects including equipment selection, GNO agreements & related requirements, support scheme registration.

  • With experience across a range of technologies and sectors, GCS can support most process engineering deployments. We can offer support to the design of projects; mass and material flow analysis, energy use modelling, pipework design, layout design as well as to the build out; project management, tender processes, mechanical design, control system planning, risk management.

  • Effective management of airborne emissions is essential in AD and composting operations. GCS have experience in emissions assessment and delivery of abatement systems such as scrubbers and biofilters with associated blowers and ductwork.

  • GCS can support AD operations in maximising value from all revenue streams such as CO2 recovery and sales, CO2 to dry ice, Biomethane to bioCNG/LNG, Biomethane value optimisation through sales and certifications.

  • Understanding nutrient flows is critical for AD project planning approval as well as for economic operation. GCS has expertise in modelling nutrient flows in project design as well as deployment of technology solutions to meet current and upcoming regulatory requirements such as screw separators, centrifuges and reedbeds.
